Introducing DeliveryCats Cooperatives
A Local Answer to Mega-Apps

[January 3, 2023]

A new organization is working to improve gig delivery options with a concept for independent local cooperatives. Via community involvement the project will design and create a system that any neighborhood could potentially use to run a delivery co-op. This includes an open-source platform (app) and an organizational template of suggested best practices.

A proposed project outline is available on the organization’s website throughout January 2023 for open commentary. In February a public “Round Table” discussion forum will open, where each facet of the finalized outline will be explored. The first phase of the round table is expected to last 3-6 months, running concurrently with a membership drive to reach critical mass for financial goals.

Development of the app is expected to commence in Summer 2023. Prototype cooperatives are tentatively planned for late 2023 or early 2024, to last 90 days before being released as a first iteration.

Interested members of the public are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways, including the round table discussions and social media debates. Prospective co-op organizers, experts, activists, and regular participants in the industry are encouraged to join the movement. Membership starts at a “free” tier with optional paid memberships of $10 funding project development, notably the open-source platform (app).

Whistle-blowers are encouraged to reach out. The DCC website displays fifteen formal lists of publicly documented grievances. The group is also quietly compiling evidence for breach of contract complaints.

Gig delivery exploded in popularity during the 2020 pandemic, the public became aware of the convenience of having anything delivered – or a ride– anywhere, anytime. Major flaws also appeared in the system as behemoth corporations struggled with local logistics. The handful of mega-apps that serve a half-billion consumers worldwide have been slow or absent in addressing these concerns. Lawsuits have consistently been won by consumer advocates but have so far failed to foster institutional change.
